Ex-Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle expects Liam Rosenior to STAY in charge for the start of next season, but he has warned the 41-year-old that he will be sacked if results don’t improve.
The Blues have lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, and assessing Rosenior’s situation, Hoddle said:
“They’re in a really sticky position. For me, for Liam to stay in that job now until the end of the season, I think they’ll give him that opportunity, but he’s got to finish on a high note, he’s got to get some wins under his belt.”
“The reason they brought him in is he’s a young manager, he’s part of their project, if you like, if you want to use that word, and I think they’ll give him that chance.”
“But he’s going to have to start winning, even if he doesn’t get in the Champions League, they’re in the FA Cup semi-final, so they could actually win a trophy still. I think they’ll stay with him and give him a pre-season, and I think they’ll start with hi,m but he’s going to have to start next season in a positive way, if not, I think then he could be on a bit of dodgy ground.”
Rosenior is a man under pressure
With Champions League qualification now unlikely, and fans turning against him, it really isn’t looking too promising for the Blues’ current head coach.
As Hoddle mentions, there is no chance of a change in the dugout before the end of the season, but you do wonder whether he will get the summer and the start of next campaign to turn things around.
What are the odds of Chelsea sacking Rosenior?
At the moment, Rosenior is still odds-on to be in charge for the first game of next season, but the prices of other coaches being in the dugout are shortening by the day.
Former players Felipe Luis (priced between 5/2 and 4/10) and Cesc Fabregas (4/1 and 6/1) are among the frontrunners, while former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez (6/1) and Andoni Iraola (between 6/1 and 10/1) are also likely to come under consideration.
