Ex-Chelsea star Joe Cole thinks his former club “should” consider making a move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona are not expected to trigger their option to keep the England international on a permanent basis, and Cole says a transfer to Stamford Bridge would make a lot of sense:
“It’s just a matter of the wages and the valuation. Rashford ticks a lot of boxes, but you don’t want to spend a fortune on him – he’d do a good job for Chelsea.”
“He needs to keep going, Marcus, he needs to keep his confidence up because he rebuilt himself at Barcelona, and there’s still another level for him to jump to. He’s someone Chelsea should inquire about, but it’ll depend on the deal.”
How much would Rashford cost?
United were prepared to let him go to Barca for €30m (£26m) so a bid for a similar amount may well be accepted.
However, as Cole points out, you do have to consider Rashford’s wage demands as well. He is currently earning close to £300,000 a week, which is considerably more than Chelsea’s two highest earners – Reece James and Wesley Fofana.
The pair take home £200,000 a week, so unless Rashford is willing to take a pay cut and conform to the club’s wage structure, you can’t see this deal happening.

Chelsea need a left winger
There is no disputing the fact that the Blues are desperate to strengthen the left flank. Both Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens struggled last season, so it is an area that manager Xabi Alonso will want reinforcements for.
In terms of potential alternatives to Rashford, there is longstanding interest in Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, while the likes of Barcelona’s Ferran Torres and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao have also been linked.
