A member of Edmond Tapsoba’s entourage says the player is open to the idea of joining Xabi Alonso at Chelsea.
The pair worked together at Bayer Leverkusen for two and a half years, and asked by Africa Foot about reports linking the player with a switch to Stamford Bridge, his representative replied:
“Our door isn’t closed. The coach knows the player well, but Tapsoba is under contract with Leverkusen.”
“If something happens, it will happen naturally. Edmond Tapsoba is currently under contract.”
Alonso has asked specifically about signing a centre-back
Writing on his Substack prior to Alonso’s appointment, journalist Simon Phillips confirmed that the Spaniard had spoken about strengthening the club’s options in the centre of defence.
With Tapsoba being a centre-half and having worked under the manager before, it is easy to put two and two together.
We named the Burkina Faso international as a potential target in our list last week, and it seems the defender is keen on reuniting with Alonso.
It could be another summer of change at Chelsea
Alonso will have his own thoughts on who should stay and who should be sold. Reports in Spain claim that he already has a working group of 5 players he trusts.
It does seem as if the 44-year-old has identified centre-back as an area of weakness but there could soon be holes to fill in other areas of the pitch as well.
There is now mounting speculation that Enzo Fernandez could be sold at the end of the season, and with Joao Pedro being heavily linked with Barcelona, the Blues may need to reinforce the midfield and the front line too. It appears as if it could be another busy summer of incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge.
