Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella is still likely to leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The defender sat down for an interview recently with several Spanish media outlets, expressing that he is “very happy” to stay with the Blues. However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:
“The reality is that (with) Marc Cucurella, the situation remains open. If a good bid arrives for Chelsea and for Cucurella, he could still leave Chelsea.”
“Cucurella was very respectful today (in his interview) by saying: ‘I’m happy where I am. My family is happy’. So, Cucurella is not going to force a move. He’s not going to create a problem. But in case of good proposal, Marc Cucurella could still leave Chelsea after the World Cup.”
Romano says that despite links to Barcelona, another team is the favourite to sign Cucurella:
“Atletico Madrid love Cucurella. Atletico Madrid are on it. So, for sure, Atletico consider Cucurella as one of their summer targets. Then, (with) Barcelona, there is an appreciation, but (Alejandro) Balde is still there, and Barcelona have several players in that position.”
“So, at the moment, appreciated the player, yes, he’s a former Barca player, so it would be a nice story, but at the moment, still nothing concrete or official because, again, this depends on the domino of fullbacks. But the Cucurella situation remains very open, one to watch for sure.”
How much would Chelsea sell the player for?
Cucurella actually downplayed his value in his interview, stating that he would “put myself at between €35m (£30m) and €45m (£39m).”
However, it has been reported in the English press that Chelsea could demand as much as €70m (£60m), although there is a feeling that he may end up being sold for €50m (£43m).

Why is Cucurella keen on leaving Stamford Bridge?
Talks over a new contract have stalled. The left-back now has just two years left on his current deal, and Chelsea do not allow players to stay unless they commit for the long term.
There have also been suggestions that Cucurella (like Enzo Fernandez) was particularly upset with the departure of Enzo Maresca at the start of this year.
