Liverpool have reached the milestone of 1,000 goals scored away from home in the Premier League.
The Reds brought up that landmark while beating Everton 2-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Virgil van Dijk’s header in the 100th minute of the derby was number 1,000, following on from Mohamed Salah’s earlier strike.
After the inception of the Premier League, the club’s first goal on the road was scored by Mark Walters during a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on August 25, 1992.
Four years later, the legendary John Barnes supplied Liverpool’s 100th away Premier League goal as the 1996-97 campaign began with a 3-3 draw versus Middlesbrough.
Emile Heskey was the provider of the next two milestone goals.
The England international’s first goal of an eventual hat-trick at Derby County in October 2000 was No.200 and No.300 came from Heskey when Fulham were beaten 2-0 at Craven Cottage in November 2003.
No.400 was netted at the same venue by Jermaine Pennant five years later and the Reds’ 500th Premier League away goal was Maxi Rodriguez’s second strike in a 3-2 defeat of Blackburn Rovers in April 2012.
Adam Lallana was the scorer of No.600, at Leicester City in December 2014, and the next century was completed by Philippe Coutinho in a 3-3 draw at Arsenal three years on.
In January 2021, Sadio Mane’s finish in a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur brought up the milestone of 800 away Premier League goals for the Reds.
No.900 arrived at Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2023 and though it was officially a Hugo Bueno own goal, Harvey Elliott was the man with the strike that took a deflection and went in off the post.
None perhaps have been sweeter than the 1,000th, however. “It was massive in the situation we are in,” said Van Dijk of his late, late winner against Everton.
