The Reds also reached the League Cup final during Slot’s maiden season, though were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United at Wembley.

On a personal level, the boss was chosen as both the LMA Manager of the Year and Premier League Manager of the Season.

That memorable campaign was followed by tragedy as Liverpool forward Diogo Jota lost his life, alongside his brother André Silva, in a car accident in July 2025.

Acknowledging Slot’s leadership at a time of incredible shock and sadness, the club’s owners said: “He also helped guide the club through one of the most difficult periods imaginable following the loss of Diogo.

“The compassion and humanity he showed throughout that time said a great deal about him as a person.”

Slot led the team to a winning resumption of competitive football at the outset of 2025-26, including five victories in a row to start their title defence.

It would prove to be a challenging campaign, however, which saw the Reds finish in fifth place in the Premier League and confirm a return to the Champions League next season.

“Arne leaves with our gratitude,” stressed LFC’s ownership when it was announced Slot’s tenure has now come to an end.

“With a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield.”
