{"id":7142,"date":"2026-06-05T10:12:41","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zeeworld.name.ng\/?p=7142"},"modified":"2026-06-05T10:12:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:12:41","slug":"liverpools-greatest-no-88-sam-raybould","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zeeworld.name.ng\/?p=7142","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool&#8217;s Greatest &#8211; No.88: Sam Raybould"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A Liverpool star at the beginning of the 20th century, Sam Raybould was the first player in the club\u2019s history to score 100 goals.<\/p>\n<p>The attacker, who arrived from New Brighton Tower, required just 164 appearances to bring up his groundbreaking century of strikes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a dangerous player when in possession and backs who make mistakes might as well concede a goal straight away,\u201d newspaper reports from the time read.<\/p>\n<p>Raybould\u2019s team-leading 17 goals fired the <strong><u>Tom Watson<\/u><\/strong>-managed Reds to their first top-flight league title in 1900-01.<\/p>\n<p>Another achievement followed in 1902-03 when he became the first Liverpool player to hit the 30-goal mark in a single season.<\/p>\n<p>Raybould was then subject to a seven-month suspension after agreeing to a rule-breaking transfer to Portsmouth.
