Ninety-seven fans were unlawfully killed as a result of the disaster that occurred at the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.<\/p>\n
In remembrance, the head coaches and captains of the Reds\u2019 men\u2019s, women\u2019s, U21s and U18s teams visited the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield to lay wreaths.<\/p>\n
So too did club officials, including CEO Billy Hogan, Sir Kenny Dalglish and ambassadors Ian Rush and Natasha Dowie.<\/p>\n
Members of Liverpool\u2019s men\u2019s squad and coaching staff also paid their respects at the Hillsborough Memorial at the AXA Training Centre.<\/p>\n
Flags were flown at half-mast at club sites and tributes took place elsewhere across the city.<\/p>\n
At 3.06pm, the time at which the match in 1989 was halted, the club observed a period of silence in honour of the 97.<\/p>\n
Ninety-seven biodegradable balloons were subsequently released from the centre-circle at Anfield in a poignant act of remembrance.<\/p>\n
