Chelsea and Manchester United are the favourites to secure the signature of Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking to The United Stand YouTube channel, Jacobs suggested that a deal could be put in place ahead of the World Cup next month:

“Chelsea and Man United are the two to watch at the moment. I’m hesitant to say front-runners because it’s so early in the window, but there is actually a chance, unlike other players, that Rogers is prepared to communicate where he wants to go and what he wants to do and get things moving before the World Cup.”

“He’s not necessarily inclined just to go off, celebrate his Europa League win, fly off to America, and then sort it all out afterwards. So there might be some movement or direction of travel a little bit earlier than in some other cases, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

4 clubs are interested in Rogers

Jacobs says that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix for the England international’s signature, but there are question marks over whether either team will make a formal bid.

The Gunners are said to have been put off by Rogers’ asking price, which is believed to be at least £80m, while PSG would not be able to guarantee the player starts, which is something he would ask for.

Chelsea might need a replacement for Fernandez

The future of Enzo Fernandez looks increasingly likely to be away from Stamford Bridge. Real Madrid and Manchester City are reportedly circling the Argentinian international.

Chelsea’s vice-captain has had most of his success playing as a no.10 this season, and his goals and assists would need to be replaced. Rogers would be able to do that, while also offering an option for Xabi Alonso on the left wing.
